The course (lecture plus seminar) will examine the economic
determinants and consequences of population change and demographic behavior
including household formation, marriage, child bearing and rearing, mortality
and migration. We will apply analytical tools of economics to investigate
various economic and social consequences of population change. The consequences
studied include the economic impact of population aging and fiscal
sustainability, the effects of government policies in support of families, and
the economic impact of immigration.
