Students in this class will work together to plan and conduct an experimental investigation as well as analyze the data and write a research report. The course focuses on “replication” as scientific instrument. The core theme of replication will be (shortly) considered theoretically (testing of hypotheses, e.g. HARK-ing) as well as (predominantly) from an empirical perspective (e.g. p-hacking). “Open science”-methods (e.g. preregistration) are further topics. The two goals of this class are the acquisition of basic empirical skills and gaining insights into the scientific process – starting from the (replication) research question right up to writing an empirical report.
